Doom 3 (2004) PDF Print E-mail

You are creeping through a dark metallic corridor, with nothing but a cheap handheld flashlight to show you the way, suddenly you hear a noise, you turn to your left, and unload a slug into what you believe is a zombie. Once the smoke has cleared, you realise you’re looking at yourself in a rather reflective part of the wall. You shrug it off, and continue along the corridor, until you reach a door. You reach forward, and tap on the control panel; crap! you need a keycode. Oh wait - you picked up this PDA earlier with a keycode on it! You go ahead and try it, and the door opens. You jump backwards, as a demon launches itself at you. You pelt its body with a buckshot round, and the vile creature explodes in a gush of blood and guts.

That pretty much sums up the whole experience of Doom 3, sad to say. Does it live up to the hype of the original? Well that’s what we’re about to discuss.

You’re on your way through the endless rain forest in the hours of darkness – the howl of jaguars and hisses of snakes surround you. You take out your pistol, just in case. You wander further into the deep jungle, with nothing but a flashlight showing you the way. Eventually, you approach a small stream, you go to step in it – oh shit; you suddenly notice there are hundreds of piranhas swimming in it. You’ll have to find another way round this river. Wait. What was that? You quickly turn around but see nothing – until you look up – there is a jaguar, flying through the treetops, heading your way. What the hell?

This, along with many other glitches and bugs, seems to happen a lot in this game – but somehow, we found Boiling Point: Road to Hell strangely compelling.

The prequel to the acclaimed FPS/RPG hybrid S.T.A.L.K.E.R: Shadows of Chernobyl has been out for a little while now. Before launching the game, we were wondering whether it would live up to the hype; Whether or not it is as good as the original, we pondered over this for the annoying few minutes it took us to break the plastic seal – and the few minutes it took for the game to install on our system. Finally, it was done. We double clicked on the icon and – oh what a load of bollocks, we’ve got the blue screen of death.

That pretty much sums up the experience for many players – but thankfully, not for us. Not to start with, anyway.

“Dungeon Keeper” is a real time strategy game that was let loose in July 1997, and was produced by ex- game production company Bullfrog (Which has since fallen victim to EA’s greed, and has been bought out).

This game takes a nice twist from ordinary video games, as you are no longer play as one of the “good-guys”; instead you play as a heartless, hateful Dungeon Keeper, whose only objective is to wipe out the heroes that frequently invade your territory hoping to destroy your precious Dungeon Heart, the source of all your power.
It is completely up to you how the game turns out, and every time you play, you can use different strategies to destroy your opposition.
